About Us

Craftsmen in New Zealand Stone - Logan de Ridder & Mirielle Maxwell

We were both born in the Bay of Islands, in the very north of New Zealand.  Growing up surrounded by beaches, we both enjoyed fossicking beaches and rivers, bringing home stones and other treasures but not knowing why we had such a fascination.

Logan trained as a stonemason helping create wonderful structures such as the Christchurch Visitors Centre.  Mirielle studied and worked in business. Neither of us found these professions spiritually fulfilling so the search for something more began.

Each year we would travel to the South Island for holidays, where we enjoyed the beautiful peacefulness of this land.  In 2002 we visited the West Coast of the South Island and immediately felt a deep spiritual connection with this old land which time had forgotten.  We fell in love with the rivers and beaches knew immediately this was our new home.

We were fascinated by the special mineral Pounamu, and enjoyed making treasures for our friends and family.  This naturally led on to working the stone and opening a small gallery - we now work a wide range of beautiful minerals from around New Zealand, and take great pleasure in creating unique pieces that become special treasures of the people who receive them.

Our work is inspired by nature, Tangaroa (the ocean), and the beauty of the South-west of Aotearoa.

We wish you health, harmony and happiness; may our jewellery provide you with security and guidance in your journey through life.

Please note - there is a large percentage of imported chinese stock on our NZ marketplace (upto 80% of all jade you will see on shelves).  This stock is mass produced in China often using child labour.  Please be aware of this when purchasing products throughout NZ and ask where the product comes from.  If they cannot tell you the origin it is more than likely imported product.  Our philosophy is that if the stone is not from NZ we do not work it, and we also do not mass produce any items, as we believe this is not in keeping with the spirit of the stone and NZ.    All of our products come with a Certificate of Authencity.  Support NZ artists and buy NZ Made.
